Our humble beginnings

Nubian Heritage is the brainchild of two New York street vendors. In 1992, after graduating from college without jobs, Rich and Nima embarked on a mission to produce luxurious natural products from traditional African recipes with fair trade ingredients. Today, Nubian Heritage offers natural, culturally authentic products inspired by ancient world healing methods. Although Nubian Heritage products are no longer made in bathtubs, not much has changed, the company still makes its own products, still uses fair trade ingredients and still invests in community commerce.

African Black Soap has been used for centuries in Africa to cleanse and care for skin. Historical references to shea butter, a staple of African pharmacology, date back to shea butter caravans dating back to Cleopatra's time in Egypt. Complementing the detoxifying properties of the ingredients, our packaging pattern symbolizes purity and commemorates the strong community identity textiles in Africa have with each community having their own unique designs.
